National Lifeguard Championships
You may not have heard of it before, but something special takes place each year on the shores of Cape May. This is the National Lifeguard Championships, a definitive event that hundreds of competitors and thousands of spectators turn out for. As the beachfront is one of our state’s better features, the locals understand the importance of the job these people do and come to see with a passion.
The competitions themselves include beach runs, run-swim-runs, swim relays, iron guards and board, surf and rescue races. Some are done in teams for final team scores—come see which part of the country you can feel safest swimming at!
